Acclima True TDR-315N Soil Moisture Sensor (SDI-12)

Product Summary

The TDR-315N stands as Acclima’s premier Soil Smart TDR moisture sensor, featuring a significantly higher amplitude waveform compared to the H-series sensors. This enhanced waveform, while demanding more power, ensures precise measurements even in challenging soil environments. As part of the Soil Smart Series, its advanced waveform analysis is compatible with all mineral soil types.

Offering a complete integrated time domain reflectometer, it merges ultra-fast waveform generation and digitization with a precision 5 pico-second resolution time base and sophisticated waveform analysis firmware for true time domain analysis of soil-propagated waveforms. With longer waveguides, it provides an expansive sampling volume and maintains high accuracy in waveform propagation.

Designed for horizontal installations, it is inserted into trench sidewalls using a provided probe guide to ensure parallel placement of waveguide rods. Data is transmitted through a 3-wire SDI-12 interface, compatible with recorders compliant with SDI-12 version 1.4 and earlier.

This sensor, the flagship of Acclima’s Soil Smart series, offers the largest sampling volume and wide spacing with its 15cm waveguides, ensuring high accuracy across various soil types. It replaces the TDR-315L, featuring a high voltage waveform output for effective measurements even in high soil electrical conductivity conditions. Rigorously tested for accuracy and repeatability across diverse soil conditions, including potter’s clay, it allows for detailed waveform capture, providing comprehensive insights into soil moisture dynamics.

Description of your first image

TRUE Time-Domain Reflectometer (TDR) sensors, widely acknowledged as the pinnacle of moisture sensing technology, have long grappled with various limitations such as restricted mobility, coaxial lead connections limiting bandwidth, and steep costs, often reaching thousands of dollars.
However, Scott Anderson, the visionary founder of Acclima Inc., has revolutionized this landscape. After years of meticulous research aimed at refining and downsizing TDR technology, this year marks the unveiling of a sensor that addresses these challenges head-on. Encapsulated within a robust epoxy resin enclosure, this sensor incorporates all necessary electronics, algorithms, and signal processing, while featuring an industry-standard SDI-12 interface.
Tailored for “insertion type” soil readings, the sensor offers exceptional user-friendliness in the field. Moreover, boasting a generous 150ml sample volume, it surpasses Capacitance probes by a significant margin.
